When I was learning how to quilt, I joined the Reddit quilting community for ideas (if you are not yet on Reddit, take an hour tonight and get yourself on there. I say "an hour" because you're going to want to learn your way around and devote enough time to find and join the communities that interest you). One day I found a post by /u/ErinGlaser of this quilt that MESMERIZED me.
I contacted Erin and she linked me to her wonderful Etsy shop, Out of Character Quilts. Her work is marvelous. In the quilt above, as if the materials weren't gorgeous enough, the thread she used for the quilting is space-dyed, and changes color every few inches. She used shot cotton for the front, which, if you're unfamiliar with shot cotton, is this extremely soft cotton that's woven in a way that makes it appear to change color depending on the angle viewed from.
This quilt has seen us through several roadtrips with two very energetic dogs, several rowdy parties, a power-saving freezing-house winter, and my husband's nightly Xbox-ing. Still gorgeous, still hearty, even after several washes.
So, if you have a need for a gorgeous quilt, but don't feel like doing all that yourself (ahem), now you know where to find them!
